To participate in college sports in the USA, you need an official eligibility certification, the so-called NCAA Eligibility. This is issued by the NCAA Eligibility Center and is mandatory for all athletes who want to compete in NCAA Division I, II, or III. The registration in the NCAA Eligibility Center ensures that you meet the academic and athletic requirements and comply with the association's regulations as an amateur athlete.
In this guide, we'll show you step-by-step how to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center, what documents you need, and what special considerations apply for German-speaking athletes.
The eligibility is the official proof that you, as an international athlete, meet the standards and regulations of the NCAA and are allowed to participate in college sports. It is checked whether your academic achievements meet the US requirements and whether you are eligible to play as an amateur.
The eligibility is crucial to be able to play in one of the three NCAA divisions (I, II, or III). Without this eligibility, you cannot become an official member of a college team and will not be eligible to play.
Open the NCAA Eligibility Center in your web browser: NCAA Eligibility Center.
Select the appropriate option:
For Division I and II: Click on "Register" and then select "Academic and Amateurism Certification Account".
For Division III: Click on "Register" and then select "Amateurism-only Certification Account".
